Spend eight minutes listening to Jack Monroe talk about food politics. For her this means many things– economic policy, inequality, class assumptions, gender, zero-hour contracts, the austerity downfall of social services. And the politics of kale and “peasant food” and being able to feel proud of what can be cobbled together on very little.
Her voice quivers as she speaks her truth. She is powerful and righteous and speaks from personal experience.
You all know her blog, yes? I look forward to many years of learning from her as an important public figure.
I agree. Jack Monroe is the best. I was in the TV audience when she was on BBC Question Time in Bristol, and her views across a range of social issues where spot-on. I want Jack Monroe as my leader! Vote for Jack!
Wow, we need out spoken people like Jack Monroe in Australia too. While we are supposedly egalitarian, wealth creates it’s own social judgements and we have discrimination aplenty here too! Thanks for sharing…
Thanks Jack, I read your blog & articles before but poverty is affecting me. I am self-employed but not getting much work-non now & tax credits just been cut. Am discovering cheap food & will c if can get food vouchers but even that is hard as people presume I have money. Am applying for work but as you know difficult. Any tips for writing/blogging & getting paid work? Am a single mum survivor of many things. Carry on your great work. Many thanks
